Embodied Psychotherapy

Yoga

Welcome

I am a trauma informed Integrative Counsellor, Embodied Psychotherapist, Pesso Boyden Practitioner and Yoga Teacher. My private practice is situated in a warm, welcoming space near Penzance in Cornwall. I also work with clients on Zoom.

My work is relational, experiential, creative, embodied and practical in many parts with a holistic blending of somatic practices, breath work and conventional talking therapy.  Each session is carefully adapted to meet the unique needs of my client.

I have dedicated the last 14 years to working alongside a diverse range of conditions and challenges supporting individuals through trauma, depression, anxiety, stress, low self-esteem, domestic violence, abuse, limiting unhelpful patterns, behaviours and neuro-diversity. I have also assisted those with physically limiting conditions such as Multiple Sclerosis, Motor Neuron Disease and Parkinson’s.

In addition to my private practice, I collaborate with my local council to support young people who have experienced traumatic events in their childhood. I also volunteer as a counsellor at West Cornwall’s Women’s Aid.

I am a member of the National Counselling & Psychotherapy Society (NCPS) and Yoga Alliance Professionals. I abide by the NCPS code of ethics, which is a set of principles and values that provide a solid foundation for safe and ethical practice.

  • “I came to yoga after years of pilates when Karly was recommended by a friend. I have MS.  Karly gets me! Her empathy, humour and compassion combining both physical as well as mental therapy through yoga are life-improving. I am learning how to breathe, and to communicate with myself; with love. And am growing stronger every day. Thank you Karly. “

  • “ Karly gives my daughter an invaluable opportunity of space and time in which to explore and help her understand her emotions in a supportive, caring environment. She is developing skills to help her heal and connect to her body - Which she will be able to draw upon throughout her life. She always comes out of these sessions feeling positive and calmer.”

  • “Karly’s therapeutic one-to-one sessions are really impressive and helpful. The combination of mindfulness, therapy, meditation and yoga is an incredibly effective way of looking at your emotions, but most importantly, feeling them in your body. This is so important in the healing process, and something that can be missed in more traditional therapy. Karly is very compassionate and intuitive, and creates a safe and welcoming space in which the client and the practitioner work together. I benefited hugely from these sessions, and feel confident that Karly has given me the tools to continue an emotional growth and deeper understanding of myself. I highly recommend her.”

  • “ How grateful I am to have had the opportunity to offload a life of difficulties, and to have had strategies and support to reorganise my thoughts. I’m more optimistic for my future. A life changing experience for me.”

What happens in a session?

The process is always collaborative. We start with talking and I keep things flexible and tailor-made to suit individual needs. I have a variety of tools I draw from and the process is always client-led. We may just talk, work with the imagination, breath, embodiment practices or visual prompts. It all depends on what you need, and what feels right and useful for you in the moment.

I believe very strongly that we can’t separate body and mind, because they are constantly interacting – sometimes in harmony but often not. During a session with me we will give them equal attention aiming to enhance awareness and deepen your understanding of the mind-body connection.

If you’re curious about how to unveil your limitless potential, get in touch.
