Integrative Counselling & Embodied Psychotherapy
The Integrative Counselling approach draws from the traditions of Gestalt, CBT and Person Centred Counselling (PCC).
IC takes into account that you as a unique individual and your personal circumstances may benefit from the use of elements of different approaches to better help, support and cope with your problems.
As an integrative counsellor I adopt the right approach/intervention for the individual I am working alongside. You, as the client, will be the expert of your own experience, meaning the sessions are client led. Empowering you to recognise and step into your own potential whilst I offer a safe, confidential, welcoming and non-judgmental space to explore certain issues and challenges.
These sessions will help you to bring what is lying under the surface, the subconscious, to the forefront - into your conscious mind. By becoming more aware, you are then better able to understand how certain deep rooted and difficult feelings and behaviours impact you in the present, and you can learn to change or cope with them.
Counselling can be helpful when a person is struggling with a specific issue - a current problem - external circumstances. It is generally used for short-term therapy (6 -12 sessions). Where as, Psychotherapy might help a client with more deep rooted, internal difficulties in life, meaning the therapy may last longer.
Embodied Psychotherapy: Connecting to the Wisdom of the Body.
My approach to Embodied Psychotherapy draws from a diverse range of techniques, including yoga; breath work, mindfulness, conscious movement and meditation, somatic trauma therapy, trauma informed yoga, pesso boyden psychotherapy and integrative counselling.
In this psychophysiological therapeutic process, we will cultivate a deeper self-awareness of how your body responds to your thoughts, words and emotions. By acknowledging the body-mind connection, we aim to better understand how certain lifelong patterns and behaviours may be negatively affecting your present day life and over all well-being.

Listening to the body speak
My holistic approach allows space for curiosity, for why the body and mind ‘speak’ differently when referring to the same question. When this is brought into awareness often a person experiences what can’t be spoken but what is held deep inside the body. The unspoken. Bodily sensations may be the only available clues to what might be either beneath the surface, or, what might be avoided. Potentially, the embodiment processes I adopt in each session could be the only doorway to the underlying issues. The task is to support each client to link the messages from the body to what they are emotionally experiencing.
